The male Mandrill have an orange/yellow beard and an unmistakable bright red and blue snout and rump. Females and younger Mandrills have a duller blue snout and a buff coloured beard.
There are two types of group within Mandrill society. One type consists of a very large male and around 15 females. They are predominantly terrestrial. They spend most of the day on the ground, moving around at night, and sleep in a different set of trees each night. They feed on leaves, roots, fruit, seeds, nuts, green vegetation and invertebrates.
